Millennium Volunteers

Outcome/CYPP action to which this Case Study applies

Aim/objective – what were you trying to achieve?

Support young people to access good quality volunteering opportunities to benefit their local community and increase their skills and knowledge.

Description – what did you do, what happened?

VODA’s Millennium Volunteers Project works with young people aged 16-24 to help them get involved as volunteers. Every year VODA supports in excess of 80 young people to get involved in their local communities in a wide arrange of settings such as:

  • Sports coaching
  • Youth work
  • Teaching
  • Helping the elderly
  • Helping those with disabilities.

Young people are rewarded for their efforts with National Volunteering Awards upon completion of 100 and 200 hours of volunteering.

Impact – what is the evidence that you made a difference?

Young people complete a Personal Profile upon completion of 200 hours of volunteering. The profile records the contribution they made to the community and the skills and knowledge they developed in the process.

Video footage and photography is also used to capture before and after footage of volunteers efforts as well as record case studies.
